In the early 20th century, a German man by the name of Joseph Pilates created the method (originally called Contrology).

In short, Pilates is a full body workout that focuses on recruiting deep muscles to support the body with an emphasis on correct muscles working, which in turn means the body moves efficiently without compensation.

Pilates will help you build strength from the inside out, reducing pain and retraining lazy muscles and movement patterns. It can be performed as mat exercises using body weight or on a variety of inspired equipment using springs as resistance.

Pre and Post Natal: The correct exercise program is important to keep the pregnant body fit, well and strong and prepare for birth and recovery! Our instructors are experienced in a variety of Pilates programs that ensure safety throughout gestation and, the all important recovery phase after giving birth.

Senior Clients: As we get older, feeling strong and stable on your feet will prevent unnecessary falls and accidents. Pilates directly helps with balance, proprioception and muscular strength.

Anyone looking for an alternative to hard core, high impact exercise! Pilates promotes core strength, fluid movement, agility and lean muscle tone.


If you are fit and well and have no pre existing medical conditions, musculoskeletal conditions or injuries, you may join in our general group classes without assessment. For clients who are interested in beginning Pilates for Clinical or other specific reasons, an Initial Consultation is essential! If you’re unsure of which category you may fall into, please arrange for an Initial Consultation and your instructor/practitioner will advise you on how next to proceed with your Pilates journey.



Joseph Pilates is famous for boasting the following: “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 sessions you will see the difference, in 30 sessions you will have a whole new body!” Here at Narellan Pilates Studio we like to back this up with scientific, evidence based research. Results will depend on each individual client however, if you are diligent and compliant in following the prescribed exercises and mindful of your movements, you may expect results in approximately 6-8 weeks. Some of our clients have told us that they experience some relief from symptoms and an awareness of core and posture after only a few sessions.


Ideally you should aim to do Pilates 3-4 times per week. We do realise however, that influences such as availability and affordability will impact on each individual. You should aim to do as many studio sessions or classes as you can and do some homework Pilates and incorporate the Pilates principles into your other daily activities.
